Fare thee well [part1]

Don't be dismayed at good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes is certain for those who are friends.
- Richard Bach, "Illusions"

These few sentences are what I held onto as I said good-bye to many of my closest friends, some which I count to be like my sisters and family. This is also why I could not and would not cry as I said good-bye because I know we'll meet again and until that time where we can hug and laugh together, I will do my best to keep in touch, with emails and phone calls and occasional surprises in the mail... hehehe......

Although leaving Toronto meant leaving behind a life that I had grown accustomed to and comfortable with I was excited to experience new things elsewhere, even if it is back to a place that I thought I knew so well... but that will be another post I think... =D

I have to say that in saying farewell and best wishes to each and every friend, it was definitely not an easy time.... not that I cried, but that I ended up going out for many lunches and dinners...... I almost, just almost, was sick of eating! LOL.... but I don't regret any of the meals as I remember all that we talked about at our "last meal" ..... and also discovered some new places!

So the first person I met up with was probably Hannah to celebrate the completion of the International Festival of Authors that she had been slaving away at for months....... she suggested an all-day breakfast place, and well since I LOVE my breakfasts, I was super excited to try out this restaurant.... and boy was I rubbing my fully tummy with a satisfied smile at the end of the meal! The restaurant is called Aunties & Uncles, and even by the name, how could anyone not like this restaurant! hehehe....

What's really surprising is that there are chairs outside of the restaurant for customers to sit on to wait for their table. If you go on the weekend (which is when I went, Saturday morning at 11), I had to wait in line for a table for 2, this is something that I thought only happened at Chinese dimsum places.... so I was pleasantly surprised... and while I was waiting for my table, I got wafts of something delicious but could not decipher what it could be....

Anyways, so by the time we got to our table, I was already looking forward to my big breakfast just cuz I had been enticed with the mouth watering smells for 20 minutes.... hehehe... I ended up ordering a mushroom omlete with hash brownand challa toast and a grapefruit juice. Our food came out really fast and we digged into it with gusto.

The omlete was perfect, as the mushrooms were juicy and very fragrant.... I don't know what they used to season it, but it was D-E-Licious! and then OMGGGGGGG the hash brown I have never had any potatoes as good as these! They were more like potato chunks cooked until very soft with bits of sweet potato mixed in and bits of onion and potato that were a little burned and like a crust.... they were just heavenly and I couldn't stop gushing about them... hahaha... I even said that I might just come back to Toronto for these! Truly they are the best! I have had many American breakfasts, and there were never any potatoes/hash browns as good as these!

Not only did I thoroughly enjoy the meal, but we spent 2 hours chatting and left feeling satisfied but not stuffed.... then I went home and gushed some more about the splendid breakfast to my roommate, Anne, and a week later we went there for brunch, and the following week I brought another friend, Teresa there! hehehehe....

Next time, when I am back in Toronto, I will go there again and order a hash brown with soup of the day and challa toast, I saw someone do that the last time I was there..... hehehe.... try it out and I hope you like the place as much as I do!

Even though I complained a little about all the food that I ate, please don't get mad, I am not saying that I didn't have a good time, I actually loved all the times where we cooked together, no matter how the food came out, the time that we spent together grocery shopping, preparing all the ingredients, cooking and eating, that's all time that I hold dear in my heart and the happiness that I felt at the time will never be forgotten. I will probably be wishing dearly for times like these in the future... =)

Before leaving, I was lucky to have had the opportunity to eat food cooked by those who I love and love me back, THANK YOU! this is another quote that I love:

The most indispensable ingredient of all good home cooking: love for those you are cooking for.
- Sophia Loren

N.T. made some of my favourite Vietnamese dishes, in hope that by feeding me all these dishes will help to keep my satisfied until I can visit Vietnam myself... hehehe... Thank you N.T. for taking the time to teach me so many yummy recipes! I hope you will never lose your love for cooking as I hope it brings you and those who eat your dishes much happiness!

This dish in the lower left corner on a green plate is a lotus-rootlet salad.... and it's really good! A little sweet and sour, and crunchy and fresh! YUMMMMMM!

And one thing that I have to be thankful for is that because of Toronto, I developed a love for all things Korean! I've found my favourite Korean restaurant (that is outside of Korea) in Toronto, thanks to Mary! Kamsahamnida! and I tried learning Korean on my own, I even tried making korean dishes, albeit simple ones, but just as delicious!

Lastly, Eriko and her mom were exceptionally thoughtful and brought tools and material to Toronto from Japan just to make sushi with me.... Arigato gozaimas!

Look at the pretty sushi we made! and they were delicious too!

Then we decided to do some silly photos in the house... hehehe... we had fun and worked off most of the food that we had stuffed ourselves with...

Eriko looks like a superwoman getting ready to fly and release her power, whereas I just looked like a weirdo next to her... hehe...

Ka-Pow! Hi-Ya!
These photos make me laugh, I hope they bring a smile to your face as well.
