Celebrating in Vancouver

This trip to Vancouver was particularly special as it was mainly about celebrating my (last) uncle's wedding! I think the whole family thought he would remain a bachelor all his life and so our excitement and joy was a thousand times more than normal... hehehe...

The wedding and banquet was supposed to be a low-key affair, so much so, that my cousin, Phebe, and I were told that it was just a family dinner kind of thing... and I was worried that the dress I had picked out would be too much...

But when I got to Vancouver, I found out that there were actual guests that had been invited and that it turned into a little bit more than a family dinner... hehehe.. which is fine with me, I just wanted to dress up and eat a Shark Fin soup! =D

Vancouver 2010: Winter Olympics

On December 6th, the day started off with my mom and me running back and forth between the bathroom and bedroom getting ready... originally I had planned to wear my dinner dress to the tea ceremony in the morning, but then thought it was too formal, so I ended up wearing jeans and a nice top... hehehe...

The tea ceremony was funny, and heartwarming, everyone was obviously very happy, lots of yelling, laughter and chit chats... I love all the noise that makes a house a home...

The bride and groom have to "serve" tea to their elders, starting with the eldest, that being the parents, and then my parents, then my Aunt and her husband, and then my Uncle and his wife. Each elder then also presents the bride with a gift, usually (GOLD) jewelery of some kind.... and also a red pocket to the groom.

Hehehe, the night before, I had tried on the gold necklace my mom got for the bride.... wanna peak?

Huge, no? hehehe... it was made of very thin gold so it wasn't too heavy... but extremely delicate! It's definitely a jaw-dropper... hehehe.... In some ways, it seems almost like an albatross.... something weighing down the neck... oh well... it was fun to try it on! =P

And then afterwards, we took some family photos, which was a nice memory as I don't think in my 24 years have I taken a family photo with my mom's side of the family.... so it was definitely nice... hehehe...

After all the formalities were over and done with, we ate some food that my grandma had prepared, it was all quite simple home cooked things, like congee and white radish cake, but it was so good! I loved the congee! YUM!

And just to make things more fun and memorable, I had discovered that my mom had bought a wig... hehehe... not that she needs it, she has hair on her head, but she said that she bought it so that she doesn't always have to go to the hair salon to get her hair done.... and well I brought it out to show people and we ended up taking photos with it! Even my grandpa! hehehehe.....

Hahaha, I don't know why my mom chose this hair style, but it sure is funny!
Like a Rooster or something! LOL

Hahaha, my dad reading the newspaper, and then my grandpa tried it on as well... hehehe... my mom says he looked liked Rod Stewart... lol!

I think this photo above is HILARIOUS! hehehe, I pointed out to them that they looked like they were sitting for school photos or something, their hands are on their knees and the fingers are spread out... hehehe... I think it means something in palm reading... hmmm... also my dad looks like a little kid the way he smiles...

And then later on in the afternoon, we went home to get ready for the dinner that night... My dad was still feeling playful, I guess, and so he went and took one of my mom's dress.... but shush don't let him know I showed this photo to you!

Isn't this funny? lol! He's so crazy!

And this is what I looked like that night, but I don't have any photos of me actually at the banquet as I was busy helping out and grabbing a bite when I could so didn't have time to take out my camera for some photos... will have to wait for the photographer to give me his... =)
